DIVISION CAPTAINS POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Division Captains are an integral part of the Robles Firewise Group. The primary role of a Division Captain is to know the neighbors and households within his/her area and communicate information to the residents.

 

The purpose of a Division Captain is to:

  • Organize people at the neighborhood level so they will be more resilient in the event of a disaster.

  • Encourage or assist neighbors to reduce their fire-fuel load.

  • Assist, when needed, disabled individuals living in their neighborhood.

  • Promote community connections.

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Understand the boundaries of your division.

  • Develop and maintain a neighborhood roster. 

  • Relay information to the households in your division.

  • Find others in your division who are willing to help on the different topics, such as fire-fuel reduction, emergency preparedness or community connections.

  • Network with other Division Captains and have fun.

  • Encourage others to become Division Captains or Co-Captains

  • Recruit your replacement as Division Captain - if your circumstances change in the future.

 

Preparedness Responsibilities

  • Establish an emergency response plan for your division.

  • Stay informed about Local and County Emergency Procedures.

  • Learn about home hardening techniques and share with neighbors.

  • Learn Response skills (examples how to turn off gas, how to use fire extinguisher, CPR)

 

Training and Meeting Participation

  • Participate in Division Captain Meetings, held 2 to 3 times per year.

  • Volunteer for Robles Firewise activities.

Communication

  • Division Captains will receive communications from Robles Firewise Board/leadership using email, and text messaging.

  • Division Captains should develop a communication system for the households in their division (email, text, snail mail or a combo)

 

Program communications will be delivered electronically so a computer and an email account are required. Active monitoring of email accounts is also essential.
